Form 5 Student Wins Boston Globe Art Contest

In February, four Delphi Boston Form 5 students received recognition for their talents after submitting work to The Boston Globe/Scholastic Art Awards competition for 2009. Olivia Love received Honorable Mention for her mixed-media illustration depicting the benefits of recycling and caring for our planet. Samantha Fabien was awarded a Silver Key for her photograph and Haiku entitled “Icicles”. Michael Bowman and Ella Rouelle were among 350 students (out of 5,274 entries) to receive a Gold Key for the region and whose artwork has been forwarded to New York City for national judging. Michael entered a color digital landscape photograph and Ella submitted an original pencil illustration. Come see their work on display in the main hallway!

This year, more than 100,000 works of art and writing were submitted by more than 77,000 young people in grades 7 through 12. Of these, about 33,000 received regional awards and were celebrated in local ceremonies; many of these winners earned scholarships through arrangements with local colleges. About 10,000 of the regional winners advanced to the national competition.

We congratulate our winners for their achievements, await the results from the national judging and look forward to taking part in this 86 year old competition in the future!
