How to help your kids make new year resolutions

New year’s resolutions and goals are a great way to get 2019 off to a wonderful start. It’s important that we make sure our kids our focusing on big games and setting high goals so that they can stay productive and grow through the next year.

To get your kids started on coming up with resolutions, be a resolution role model yourself. Bring your resolutions to the kitchen table as a family and discuss what everyone’s goals are for the next year.

On top of this, keep a positive approach to resolutions. Rather than bringing up shortcomings to your kids and what they can improve on from last year, talk about everything they did right in the last year. Ask what they feel they could have done better or things they didn’t get a chance to do and would love to do in 2019. You set the stage. Look ahead and ask, “What are some of the great things you want to do this year? What do you want to improve? What will make your life better and happier?”

Finally, narrow down the resolutions you have come up with with the kids. Two or three resolutions are reasonable. Take a fresh sheet of paper and have your child write down her top three resolutions, leaving a large space between each one for inserting smaller steps.

Helping your kid come up with resolutions will help them stay busy and happy throughout the next year! Good luck in accomplishing all your resolutions and in helping your kids achieve theirs!
