Reading aloud with your kids is not only a great way to spend quality time together, but it’s a way to increase their interest in reading. With every paragraph, you can find new ways to connect with your kids through shocking plot twists, crazy characters, and exciting new worlds.

Here at Delphi Boston, we’ve compiled a list of some captivating children’s books that we hope you can pick up and start reading with your kids! Enjoy!

  1. Elvis is King is bold, vibrant, and captivating — just like its main character. Illustrated with moody clay figures, this book captures both Elvis’s amazing life and the heart of rock ‘n’ roll.
  2. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. This brilliant story is written by the imaginative Kate Dicamillo. The story is beautiful and delicate and miraculous. DiCamillo’s books can be sad but they are always transformative and deeply and profoundly moving.
  3. Matilda. Roald Dahl’s books are all must-reads, and Maltida is no exception. It’s a wonderful read-aloud book filled with adventure and magic that is bound to keep you and your kids captivated.
  4. When Sadness is at your door. This is a fantastic book for the younger ones. Kids often struggle to understand their emotions, especially tough ones such as anger and sadness. This book gives parents a comforting way to positively handle sadness with their kids.
  5. The Westing Game. A fantastic mystery book to pick up with the kids. The Westing Game was written and published in 1979. It won the Newbery Medal recognizing the year’s most distinguished contribution to American children’s literature. Definitely a must-read.
