Winter Crafts to Entertain Throughout Winter Break

Winter break here at Delphi Boston officially started yesterday. Hopefully the next two weeks will be full of fun and a well-deserved break from school. Unfortunately, sometimes boredom can sneak in. While on our Pinterest page, we found five great winter crafts guaranteed to entertain throughout winter break. The more complicated crafts also have links to the sites we found them on for step by step tips and pictures.

The tastiest treats are often the simplest to create.

What you need:

  • Red paint
  • White paint
  • Paper

What you do:

  1. Put white paint on one finger
  2. Red paint on another
  3. Alternate the two fingerprints in a candy cane shape

Olaf Sock Snowman
Chances are your kids are still singing songs from Frozen. So go Dec Blog 4- Pic 2ahead ask them: do you want to build a snowman?

What you need:

  • One white sock
  • Roughly 1 1/3 cup of rice
  • 2 white pom poms
  • A small piece of orange felt
  • Googly eyes
  • Black felt
  • 3 rubber bands
  • Hot glue gun and glue

What you do:

  1. Pour about half your rice into the sock, shaping Olaf’s bottom part. Make sure the sock opening is in the middle and tie it with a rubber band.
  2. Pour roughly ⅙ cups of rice into the sock to shape Olaf’s middle and tie it off with another rubber band.
  3. Pour the rest of your rice into the sock and shape it a taller than the others. Tie it off with the last rubber band.
  4. Use the hot glue gun to secure the shape around the first two rubber bands.
  5. Cut out button, mouth, arm, eyebrows and nose shapes out of the felt
  6. Glue the felt pieces on Olaf and you have your very own snowman brought to life!

Footprint Penguin
Handprint turkeys are so last month. December is all about upside Dec Blog 4- Pic 3down foot penguins!

What you need:

  • Black paint
  • White paper
  • Colored markers
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue
  • Any extra decorations

What you do:

  1. Help your child paint the bottom of their foot with black paint
  2. Place the footprint on the paper. This will become the body of your penguin
  3. When that’s dry, add the body along the arch of the foot. Make sure the foot’s heel is also the penguin’s head
  4. Add on the eyes, draw on the face with any extra decorations and you’ll have a brand new penguin!

Santa Beard
Who doesn’t want to dress up like the most generous man in Dec Blog 4- Pic 4December? This beard is guaranteed to put every kid in the giving mood.

What you need:

  • Cotton balls
  • Glue
  • Large craft stick
  • White paper
  • Scissors

What you do:

  1. Cut out a big beard shape on the piece of the paper
  2. Help your child cut out a space for their mouth
  3. Glue cotton balls onto one side of the paper, covering it all
  4. Glue the beard to the craft stick

Paint the Snow
Embrace the classic New England weather by decorating it! Don’t forget to bundle up in the cold.

What you need:

  • Spray bottles
  • Food coloring
  • Water

What you do:

  1. Fill spray bottles with water
  2. Add dye to the different bottles. The more you add, the brighter the “paint” will be
  3. Shake it up and you’re ready to go!
